Description

The Polyp Lamps investigate expanding organic volumes and subtle irregularity in lighting. The Polyp shapes derive from fruiting forms, apples, pears, lemons, and more inspire variety through their patterns of growth and natural quirks. The design looks to illuminate, adorn, and diverge from rigidity in built environments. Assembly becomes ornament as signature tabbed inserts create interplays of light and shadow across the Polyp’s surface. Flat-packing and assembled without hardware or glue, a custom parametric program was written to use a systematic approach, allowing many variable Polyp forms to be produced using flexible connection geometry and a shared base. Playful yet undemanding, the lamps are a vision of a fantastical world brimming in expanding, growing and glowing specters somewhere between botanic and sputnik, disco and digital.
