Description

Narrative Collage is inspired by visual storytelling in Persian lithographed books studied by Ulrich Marzolph. In Qajar-era lithography, images were not decorative but integral to narrative meaning and reflected Iranian popular visual culture. Many illustrations were adapted from manuscripts such as Shahnameh and Khamsa of Nizami, while others were directly drawn on stone. Lithography created a visual language between miniature painting and reproducible public imagery. Building on this context, Narrative Collage reassembles visual elements to construct a new story. Rather than representing the past literally, the work reinterprets it by creating new relationships between images. Its intertextual and layered structure invites multiple personal interpretations.
